Firefighter Miller Awarded Medal of Valor for Heroic Rescue

On this Flashback Friday, we’re sending another congratulations to Ladder 23 Firefighter Abraham Miller for receiving the Medal of Valor from President Joe Biden at The Whitehouse on May 16 in recognition of the life-saving roof-rope rescue he completed in September 2020 in Washington Heights.

“It was an absolute honor to receive such an award. It’s a strange feeling being honored for doing your job and I wish that my parents, my company, Engine 80 and Ladder 23, Engine 84 and fellow Firefighter Jairo Sosa who assisted me in the rescue were there to accept the award with me. I just hope that this story can inspire someone to become a Firefighter and remind everyone that anything is possible,” said Miller. “The experience at The White House was absolutely amazing.

The White House staff and Department of Justice employees were great hosts and made us feel like royalty. President Biden even took the time to take a picture with my son and have a conversation with him. It was a great experience.”
