Stormzy and Maya Jama have officially announced their separation.

The British rapper and Love Island presenter shared a joint statement on Instagram, revealing that they had been attempting to salvage their relationship since reuniting last year.

Their candid post began with a touch of irony: “We’ve been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we’d be the couple announcing a breakup.”

However, they emphasized the need for clarity and space as they navigate the next phase of their lives.

The couple first fell “madly in love in 2014” but eventually parted ways after five years. In August 2023, they decided to give their relationship one final shot, spending the past year working hard to make it work.

Unfortunately, they recently concluded that it was time to call it quits. Reflecting on their journey, they acknowledged the challenges of growing together and then separately over the years.

Despite the breakup, Stormzy and Maya Jama expressed their intention to remain friends.

They kindly requested that people refrain from making a fuss if they happen to cross paths at events like the Brit Awards.

Their parting words conveyed gratitude and appreciation for the time they shared: “We still think the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we are still grateful for the time we’ve had together, and we are still friends and will always be friends.”

In a lighthearted twist, they concluded with a self-aware plea: “We’re kindly asking for the grace to let both of us keep it moving and not be bothered about it (we highly doubt this’ll work, but we’re still kindly asking anyway). Love you guys and thank you for all the love you’ve showered us with; it’s been beautiful.”
