    GIZ has worked in Nigeria since 1974. From 2004, GIZ has maintained a country office in the capital city Abuja. Currently 361 national and 66 international employees, 19 regional staff, 4 integrated specialists and 3 development workers are working in the country (June 2020).

     

    The Project

    Promotion of Agricultural Finance (AgFin) Programme

    The global project ‘Promotion of agricultural finance for agribusinesses in rural areas’ is part of the special initiative ‘Transformation of agricultural and food systems’ (SI AGER) funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The aim of the project is the development and use of adapted financial services of microfinance institutions and banks by agricultural enterprises and rural MSMEs.

    Responsibilities & tasks

    A. Responsibilities
    The Junior Advisor for supply and demand supports the technical team in various tasks around capacity building of farmers and processors and
    support to financial institutions.

    B. Tasks
    1. Support the below technical team activities

      • Update of technical activities template
      • Follow up on approved implementation activities with Admin to ensure timelines are met.
      • Support to gender and comms advisor ensuring visibility of activities.
      • Update of all projects previous BMAs, factsheets aligning with GIZ standards with support and guidance from the gender and comms
        advisor.
      • Support the writing of concept notes, BMA development, financial product development, Knowledge Product development and other
        technical tasks
      • Support the technical inputs for report writing, communications and others
      • Follow-up with project beneficiaries on quality and integrity of trainings
      • Support to technical team in compilation of achievements, success stories and results.

    2. Support the coordination with the below finance and admin activities

      • Support the technical team in the administrative and finance tasks expected from them
      • Review procurement and contracts documents for compliance with GIZ standards prior to forwarding to payment officer for processing.
      • Ensure correctness of invoices, processed and ready for payment.
      • Other support tasks as required.

    3. Other duties/additional Tasks

    • Support towards preparation of travel documents for Abuja and Jos Offices
    • Support towards scanning and filing of vouchers.
    • Support towards preparation of participants schedules for payment.
    • Perform other tasks at the request of Project Coordinator

    Required qualifications, Competences and Experience

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Social Sciences, or related field.

    Professional experience

    • Not more than 3 years’ working experience in a comparable position.

    Desired additional qualifications, competencies, and experiences

    • Ability to multi-task and interest in agriculture, finance
    • Good computer literacy knowledge (related software, phone, scanning, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g., MS Office, Outlook)
    • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally in English.
    • Ability to take responsibility and work on own initiative.
    • Strong follow-up and organisational skills
    • Disciplined and punctual; willingness to keep deadlines.
    • Willingness to strengthen skills and competencies as required by the tasks given.
    • Ability to pay attention to details and have a critical mindset
    • Strong awareness and passion on gender and other inclusivity considerations
